How to use Desu?
Today's lesson is です.
です is copula indicating assertion or judgement.
and it is equivalent to is/are/Am/ in English.

です is always placed at the end of the sentence.
きょうははれです。kyou wa hare desu.
Let's break down the sentence.
きょう means todayは is particle wa which indicates the topic of the sentence,
in this case kyou is the topic.
はれ means sunny
です is copula which work as a predicate.
はれです is predicate of the sentence.
So, きょうははれです means
Literary; Today sunny is.
You'd say
It is sunny today.
just add です to a noun or いform adjective
It is sunny today.
Think simply
just add です to a noun or いform adjective
E.g.
いぬです (it) is (a) dog
About plurals in Japanese.
About plurals,
Most Japanese Words don’t have plurals like English have.
ひとつのりんご one apple
ふたつのりんご two apples
りんご works for both singular form and plural form.
