Japanese common self- introduction phrases

Today's lesson is about Japanese common self- introduction phrases.

I made a lesson video about basic self introduction phrases.
it's easy to understand and check the pronunciation.
go ahead and check it.
This article is summery of that lesson.

Here are basic self introduction phrases.

はじめまして nice to meet you.
わたしは___です is I am________ .
よろしくおねがいします is Let's be nice to each other.

What is よろしくおねがいします?

よろしくおねがいします changes its meanings depending on the situation.

Some times it means thank you in advance, and some times means I’m sorry to trouble you.And When it is used in self-introduction, it means let’s be nice to each other.

よろしくおねがいします is a greeting asking people to help your wish comes true

I think よろしくおねがいします is kind of a greeting
asking people to help your wish comes true with respect.

In this self-introducing situation,
the wish is to have good relationship with the listener.

Then we could understand よろしくおねがいします means
let’s be nice each other.

The wish would change depending on the situation.
That’s why よろしくおねがいします has many meanings.

Self introduction phrases from Animal crossing new horizons

Isabelle called Shizue in Japanese edition.
and she says..

はじめまして hajimemashite

しずえともうします。shizue to moushimasu

This is good expressions for formal occasions.

もうします is a humble expression of いう ( meaning "say")
So if you use those phrase for self-introducing, you could say like this.

はじめまして。hajimemashite.
Your name ともうします。 [your name] to moushimasu.
よろしくおねがいします。yoroshikuonegaishimasu.

more formal expressions of よろしくおねがいします are
どうぞよろしくおねがいします or (どうぞ)よろしくおねがいいたします.

these are used in job interview or formal speech , conference etc...

Next is casual expression.

はじめまして
ぼくは(わたしは)____だよ

ぼく is one of first person pronoun used by men and boys.
だよ is casual expression of です.

はじめましてー
ぼく(わたし)は______だよ(です)
よろしくね

I use those phrases for casual conversation.

Imagine this situation

New coworker comes to you and You need to introduce yourself.
You have been working there for few years .

if new coworker looks younger than you, or looks same age as you,
say this.

はじめまして
わたしは______です
よろしくね

if new coworker looks older than you

はじめまして
わたしは______です
よろしくおねがいします

If you are below 21 years old ( not adult),
and new coworker looks same age or younger than you.

はじめまして
わたし(ぼく)は______だよ
よろしくね

Japanese show respects to elder people by using polite expressions.
Even if the listener is just one years older than you, you will use the polite expressions.
Using です might be wiser choice because we couldn't tell the listener's age.

The listener sometimes says that you should stop using the polite expressions for me.
In that case, the listener wants to talk with you like a real friend.

Hope this lesson help your Japanese learning!
