Particle は/wa
Particle wa works as a topic marker.
Words used with は is the topic of the sentence.
In this case, watashi is the topic.
Watashi is the first person pronoun meaning I.

Noun + は
Instead of using わたし, you can use other nouns such as きょう(today).
About the pronunciation of particle wa
This letter 'は' is usually pronounced ha, however when it is used as a particle, it is always pronounce Wa. so be careful not to say watashi ha. watashi wa is the correct pronunciation.
